Aging: What the Future Holds

Summary

As we live longer and healthier lives, this presents new opportunities for our communities. It’s up to us to figure out how to make the most of them. Now is the time to try out new ideas and innovative approaches to improve how our society supports older people and responds to aging.  As we get older, we experience the accumulation of experiences and insights. We can gain the power of perspective. Our abilities move us forward towards more complex goals. Each of us can contribute to the development of social, service and built environmental opportunities in our communities.  We can move our communities forward in new directions. We are all aging, and this is important to us all.   Our society has a chance to benefit from you, but that will require new ways of doing and being, changes to our policies, practices, and public structures.  By 2025, more than 1 in 4 Ohioans will be age 60 and older. We need to enact policies and foster environments that improves the daily lives for all of us.

Speaker:

Dr. Holly Dabelko-Schoeny, Associate Professor, Social Work; Director of Research, Age-Friendly Innovation Center, The Ohio State University.  – PRESENTATION
